EKSU SHINES GLOBALLY, CLINCHES SECOND POSITION AT THE 2025 SEG GLOBAL CHALLENGE BOWL

Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti has, once again, achieved a major academic milestone, earning second position at the highly competitive 2025 Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Global Challenge Bowl. The grand finale of the international competition, held on October 15, 2025, brought together 19 top-performing Universities’ teams from around the world.

TEAM EKSU earned its place at the global final after emerging as first runner-up in the Sub-Saharan Africa regional qualifier held in June, 2025. In the final event, the institution beat global contestants including the University of Colorado (third place), while the University of Lagos clinched the top prize.

The university’s representatives: Boluwatife Osasona, Lawrence Blessing, Olajioye Idowu and Adeniyi Favour, exhibited exceptional knowledge and teamwork throughout the rigorous contest, placing the University in the global spotlight.

Speaking on the achievement, Professor Adeyinka Aturamu, Head, Department of Geology, commended the students and their coordinator, Mr. Matthew

Adeniran, alongside the Departmental staff for their dedication and commitment to academic excellence.

The Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Professor Lawrence Ademilua, acknowledged the crucial support from the University’s Management and the Vice Chancellor in particular.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatola Ayodele, while hosting the TEAM EKSU in his office, congratulated the students for doing the University proud in the international arena, and as well, for boosting the institution’s global image, stating that each of the students would be given a letter of commendation and other valuable gifts as a way of encouraging the upcoming academic stars for more excellent performance in their future outings. He however charged them not to rest on their oars, but, to always go for the best each time such an opportunity presents itself in the future.

Professor Ayodele used the occasion to appreciate the Chancellor, of Ekiti State University, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, whose contributions through various interventions have enhanced both infrastructural and capacity development within the Department of Geology and the university as a whole.

The 2025 SEG Global Challenge Bowl success was another significant milestone in EKSU’s journey towards academic and research excellence, reinforcing its position as one of the leading academic institutions in Africa and beyond.

TUITION FEES, NOT INCREASED IN EKSU

The attention of the Management of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti (EKSU), has been drawn to a report from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) naming EKSU as one of the institutions that had increased their tuition fees.

For the avoidance of doubt, the university is not in the habit of increasing its tuition fees arbitrarily. It is the policy of the university that whatever a student pays in 100 level is what he/she will pay throughout the period of studentship. NELFUND and indeed, members of the public are to note that the university has not increased its tuition fees, as the fee regimes approved by the Governing Council s of the 2024/2025 academic session are still in place and maintained.

Ekiti State University will continue to support NELFUND in its efforts to reduce the financial burdens being faced by students for the purpose of achieving academic sustainability.

The university Management appreciates the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for putting in place NELFUND to provide succour for Nigerian students.
